


Check-in Times and Procedures for Fall 2006
Students may check in and move into their living space according to the following schedule. Students should report to their residence hall or apartment to check in.
First-year, transfer, and other new students - Friday August 18, 2006 - Please note this is also the first day of Orientation.
Returning and re-admitted students - Monday August 21 starting at 1:00pm
In order to be able to check into his or her living space, each student must complete the following steps:
1. Be registered for 12 or more hours of classes.
2. Submit a completed Health Data Card (this was included in the Transition notebook for new students. If you wish to complete the health card ahead of time, you can download one here.
3. Sign the Room Inventory Form. this form will be completed for you prior to your arrival by a Residence Life staff member.
4. Pay a $30 hall activity fee. Check or cash. Must be paid at the residence hall or apartment.
Living
on Campus
Making Your Room Your Home
Your residence hall room must contain all the necessities to get you started in the morning and ease you into your studies at night. Below are items considered by Gardner-Webb students as "essentials" for making your room your home for the year. You may want to use this check list when preparing to come to campus in the fall. Talking with your roommate may help to prevent duplications and save you some money. If questions arise, please contact the Office of Residence Life at (704) 406-4300.
Shopping List
Bed linens, pillows, blankets, towels and wash cloths, trash can, desk lamp, alarm clock, laundry basket and detergent, personal toiletries, backpack, shower sandals, posters, and adhesive putty (off-white is acceptable), postage stamps, envelops, school supplies, camera and film, fan, umbrella, iron and mini-ironing board, sewing kit, throw rug, curtains, hangers, bulletin board, gloves, frisbee, board games, tennis/racquetball racket, football, basketball etc....Milk crates can serve a dualistic purpose as storage and as furniture.....
Appliances
Televisions, VCR'S, stereos, CD players, radios are all fine to bring with you to campus. Refrigerators can be kept in your room if they are no larger than 4.1 cubic feet. Telephone service is provided in each residence hall room and you will need to provide your own phone and cord. Computers may be used in your residence hall room and Internet access is available. For information regarding computer services and Internet access, contact the Office of Data Processing at (704) 406-4637.
Items to Leave at Home
The following items are restricted from the residence halls: any non-UL listed appliance, any frying device or items with an exposed heating element (ie. Toasters, toaster ovens, electric heaters, hot plates/skillets, halogen lamps, etc. . . ) Flammable items including candles, incense and incense burners are not to be used as well as any device utilizing a flame or fuel. Physical training equipment, power tools, darts, and waterbeds are prohibited. Extension cords without breaker protection are also prohibited. The Residence Life staff conducts announced health & safety inspections at various times throughout the year and each resident will be held responsible for the prohibited items found in their room. Once on campus, the student can refer to the Student Handbook for further details.
Pets
Pets of any kind are not allowed in the residence halls. Fish are allowed in rooms provided that the aquarium is less than 30 gallons.
Laundry
Maytag facilities are located in each traditional residence hall. Cost is $1.25 per load for wash and $0.75 per load for a dry cycle. Residents in University Commons enjoy free laundry facilities.
