


Check-in Times and Procedures for Fall 2006
Students may check in and move into their living space according to the following schedule. Students should report to their residence hall or apartment to check in.
First-year, transfer, and other new students - Friday August 18, 2006 - Please note this is also the first day of Orientation.
Returning and re-admitted students - Monday August 21 starting at 1:00pm
In order to be able to check into his or her living space, each student must complete the following steps:
1. Be registered for 12 or more hours of classes.
2. Submit a completed Health Data Card (this was included in the Transition notebook for new students. If you wish to complete the health card ahead of time, you can download one here.
3. Sign the Room Inventory Form. this form will be completed for you prior to your arrival by a Residence Life staff member.
4. Pay a $30 hall activity fee. Check or cash. Must be paid at the residence hall or apartment.
Residence Life Mission and Goals
Mission:
The Residence Life Department participates in the total development of the residential student by providing safe, comfortable, and functional accommodations in an environment conducive to the mission of the University.
Vision:
The department utilizes staff and peer interaction in a variety of educational opportunities and community building endeavors to enhance student learning and personal development. The department promotes individual responsibility through policies which encourage personal decision making and autonomy, while preserving an educational atmosphere which is consistent with Christian values and the mission of the Institution. Residence hall living cherishes diversity and celebrates similarities as well as promotes active citizenship and encourages the development of positive self-image.
Goals:
· To provide a warm, comfortable, safe and clean environment where students can strive to meet curricular and co-curricular goals.
· To challenge students to expand their horizons and experiences through participation in planned events as well as informal student to student- staff - faculty interaction; thereby, encouraging student growth and development (psycho-social, cognitive and moral)
· To structure the campus experience with various administrative functions thereby ensuring the fair and consistent treatment of students in all aspects of campus housing, discipline and health functions and congruent with University missions.
· To provide and train a Residence Life staff which knows and understands University and Departmental policy and can apply measures to assist in the proper management of campus facilities as well as coordinate a positive living learning environment for students.
