Check-in Times and Procedures for Fall 2006

Students may check in and move into their living space according to the following schedule. Students should report to their residence hall or apartment to check in.

First-year, transfer, and other new students - Friday August 18, 2006 - Please note this is also the first day of Orientation.

Returning and re-admitted students - Monday August 21 starting at 1:00pm

In order to be able to check into his or her living space, each student must complete the following steps:

1. Be registered for 12 or more hours of classes.

2. Submit a completed Health Data Card (this was included in the Transition notebook for new students. If you wish to complete the health card ahead of time, you can download one here.

3. Sign the Room Inventory Form. this form will be completed for you prior to your arrival by a Residence Life staff member.

4. Pay a $30 hall activity fee. Check or cash. Must be paid at the residence hall or apartment.

Position Descriptions

The Residence Life Department includes Resident Advisors, Graduate Resident Directors, Residence Life Office Manager, Coordinator of Judicial Affairs, Assistant Director of Residence Life, and the Director of Residence Life.

The Assistant Director is the professional staff member who is responsible for the staffingl operations of campus housing. The Assistant Director assists students in their growth and development through advising and supervising the Gradute Resident Directors and Resident Advisors, as well as developing and maintaining community behavioral standards. They are available to answer questions and help when needed.

The Graduate Resident Director (GRD) is a graduate student staff member who lives on campus and assists the Assistant Director in operations of a residence hall. The GRD is responsible for assisting in the day to day operations of the residence hall and concerns of students. The major responsibilities include supervising Resident Advisors, communicating facility needs, maintaining community behavioral standards and organizing educational programs.

The Resident Advisor (RA) is an undergraduate student who lives on the floor with approximately 30 students. The RA is responsible for assisting students during their GWU experience. The RA's major responsibilities include assisting individual students, maintaining community behavioral standards, providing educational programs, and completing various administrative duties.

The RA is the most important resource at the University for residential students. See your RA if you want to be involved in floor activities or RHA.
